General Purpose Exercise Discussion.

Since you have very little information to go on, these answers are arguable. It is less important that you are "right" than that you know why you picked what you picked.

1. To Inform I suppose you could actually be trying to convince people that they could play chess, but I can imagine little reason for doing so other than as an entre to teaching it. This is probably a speech to teach people how to play.
2. To Actuate

To Convince

Again, you probably would not say this to an audience for any other reason than to get them to buy one?

Let's say you bought one already and before the "lemon law" expires you want to return it. Convincing you that it is the best minvan could then be an end in itself.

3. To actuate.

To Inspire.

To Convince.

Motivate someone to join a protest, or to carry the "baby" to term.

The audience member is about to take party in a protest and you are steeling his or her resolve.

You want to convince the audience member to take the pro-life position as a political stand.

4. To Convince.

To Actuate.

To Inspire.

This might just be an attempt to generate a belief in the audience member.

You are speaking to the stockholders and attempting to convince them to oppose an executive pay raise.

You are trying to bolster the allegiance of your union local by demonizing the "bosses."

5. To Convince.

To Actuate.

You want the audience to believe this in general, possibly to keep them from opposing a planned policy which some might consider intrusive.

You want the audience member to permit a search of his or her personal possessions.

6. To Actuate. Du-u-u-h-h-h! Ask Cindy for a date, you Geek!
7. To Inform. This is clearly a speech to inform. The intent is obviously to teach the audience member that formula.
8. To Convince. Specifically, to distract the audience members from the fact that you are about to lie to them!

What's that? You think you have a better answer? Grrrrrrrr!!!! All right, this time ONLY! Tell me what you think!!

Well . . . Mail It!
