Title: Place du Carausel
Author: Rosanne Wasserman & Eugene Richie
Artwork by Antanas Andziulis
Publisher: Zilvinas and Daiva Publication, Vilnius 2001

During the early 90s, Eugene and I wrote a book of collaborative poems. When Joey was very small, we used to leave him with a sitter and go out to write poems together. Gene would do one line; I'd do the other. We were playing with forms, and the book is very rich with variety: there's a sestina, a villanelle, a long crown of linked sonnets, a pantoum, and so on. Some of these poems, of course, capture things said to and by our son.

Rosanne Wasserman

This is a rare book of creative cooperation, a meeting place for parents with child, husband with wife, poets with artist, and all of them with an inspired publisher. Two American poets, masters of poetic craft, Eugene Richie and Rosanne Wasserman-active participants in the cultural life of New York-meet here with the brilliant Lithuanian artist Antanas Andziulis. His musical, graceful, and luminous paintings add unique glow to their cycle of poems. Finally, two Lithuanian publishers, Zilvinas and Daiva Svigariai, have contributed their token of love and skill by bringing this book into being. I am glad to be a part of this chain by writing these few words in gratitude for the light and grace they give us.
