New Product Development
Spring 2000
This is an undergraduate course focusing on the steps in the new product
development process. Students do a hands-on project implementing
all of the steps of this process. They work in teams, beginning by
generating ideas for many new products, then selecting the best two and
testing these concepts on consumers. They then draw up plans for
commercializing whichever new product they decide is the best (based on
concept testing). At the end of the semester, students compete for
investment dollars (held by other classmates) to fund their new products.
Each student also prepares a mini-case about a current new product of
his or her choosing and presents the case to the class.
