This  page out of Harpers Weekly shows many different images.  One can see a slave family, slaves being beaten, a slave auction, and most importantly, the word "Emancipation" along the top of the page.  This word holds much significance because for many slaves and their families, it meant freedom. 


       This image depicts a slave owner beating a slave.  One can also see a female slave owner beating a slave.                                         Abraham Lincoln is surrounded by many slaves and abolitionists.  He helped liberate slaves and was well liked by them.

Although this is not a female slave, the wounds shown in the image could have been inflicted upon anyone.


This image shows a slave owner dangling a baby by the arm.  One can see the mother on her knees reaching out for the child.  In the bottom half of the image,
a female is being beaten by an owner.  The family and child can be seen standing by witnessing the whole event.
