Biography:
Toon Moonen completed his legal training at Ghent University in 2008, where he also obtained a qualified teaching degree. Currently he is assistant professor at Hasselt University, taking part in the constitutional law and foundations of the law courses of the J.D. curriculum, which is a unique transnational cooperation between Hasselt University and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium) and Maastricht University (Netherlands). Before, he has performed an internship at the Constitutional Court of Belgium. As a postgraduate student at Université Libre de Bruxelles, he has equally developed great interest for international and comparative law. Toon Moonen is working on a Ph.D. project about constitutional interpretation in Europe and the USA and has recently published his first scientific contributions. He has taken part in various academic legal competitions, among which the Jessup international law moot court competition. Last year, he served as a memorial judge.
